Anderston Regeneration with top Glasgow artist
design-me are very proud to be working on one of their latest local projects, also with local contractors and design teams, for Sanctuary Scotland Housing Association (SSHA). Currently we’re just completing phase 1 of the project to be spread over 5 phases, creating 478 new social houses and fats in the area, including commercial office space for SSHA. This is a project that local residents were heavily included in the design process, making this a real feel good Glasgow project as well as a step forward in the regeneration of our home city.
The project will include four new areas of public realm linking up the 5 phases with a coherent use of materials design philosophy. The phase 1 area, backing onto the Clyde Express Way, will carry a large piece of public art created by local artist Andy Scott, the man behind many pieces of artwork around Scotland including “The Heavy Horse” beside the M8 motorway near Easterhouse.
The artwork will be an image of one of Anderston’s most famous sons, the comedian and entertainer Billy Connolly, being clearly visible from the Kingston Bridge and Expressway, as well as close-up.
We’re excited to be involved in this regeneration and also hearing feedback on the final projects with this involvement from Andy Scott also!
